What causes cellulite?
Cellulite is a skin problem, not a fat problem. It is caused mainly by female hormones. In fact, the reason men almost never get cellulite is because they have much less oestrogen in their bodies than women do. Another factor is genetics; if your mother had cellulite, you are likely to have it too. These hormonal and hereditary factors mean that the dermis, which is the deepest layer of skin, becomes damaged easily in specific areas. When the dermis is damaged, dermal fat cells are closer to the surface causing the unsightly ‘orange peel’ effect.
